Customise — Tableau Prep

Step-by-step walkthrough of the customisation wizard RapidDox runs for .tfl and .tflx Tableau Prep flow files.

.tfl.tflx3 stepsBackgroundLayout

For Tableau Prep flow files (.tfl, .tflx) you can generate documentation straight away — or choose to customise it depending on your needs through a shorter three-step flow. This page walks through every option in each step.

Why fewer steps than a workbook?
Prep flows don't contain dashboards, worksheets, or storyboards, and they don't expose the same column-level metadata tables as workbooks. So there's no Object Selection step, no Images step, no Sorting step, and no per-section column picker — Prep documentation has a fixed structure driven by the flow itself.

For the full list of what RapidDox extracts from a Prep flow, see What Gets Extracted — Tableau Prep. For every section that appears in the generated doc, see Sample Output — Tableau Prep.

Step 1 — Background information

Same fields as the Workbook flow — they print on the cover page and inside headers/footers.

FieldPurpose
Company NamePrints on the cover page and in the document header.
LogoUpload an image (max 2 cm × 6 cm in the output).
DescriptionFree-text "Background" paragraph included near the top of the document.
Requested byPerson or team who asked for the documentation.
Developed byPerson or team who built the Prep flow.
Requested Date / Completed DateDates printed on the cover page.
AudienceIntended readers of the documentation.

Step 2 — Layout Options

Configure the running header and footer. There are no section-include or section-order toggles for Prep files — the flow's structure is fixed.

  • Include Header — when on, the header text field is used on every page.
  • Include Footer — bottom-of-page footer text.
  • Include Center Footer — additional centred footer line.
Defaults live in Settings
You can set permanent header / footer / center-footer defaults under the Settings tab of the desktop app, then override them per-document here.

Step 3 — Export

Pick one of five output formats:

FormatBest for
Microsoft Word (.docx)Editing or re-branding in any word processor.
Portable Document (PDF)Sharing, print, email.
Microsoft Excel (.xlsx)Section-by-section tables for analysis.
Web HTMLPublishing to an intranet or cloud.
CSVImporting the metadata into other tools.
