Getting Started — Rapid Lens Knowledge Base

Prerequisites

Rapid BI Catalog is installed — see Installation if you have not done this yet.
Your license is activated — see Activation.
Access to the Rapid BI Catalog application URL (provided by your administrator).

Open the Rapid BI Catalog URL in a browser.
Sign in with the method configured by your organization (local user or SSO).
Confirm you can see the left navigation items (Metadata Insights, Processing & Scheduling, Scheduled Jobs, Lineage, Logs).

If you are an administrator, do these once before onboarding users:

License Management: Confirm the license is activated.
User Management: Create users and assign roles to them.
BI Server Configuration & Tableau Setup: Connect Tableau Server/Cloud and configure Tableau Connected Apps, Service Accounts, and User Discovery.
Database Configuration: Configure where extracted metadata is stored (powers metadata insights, lineage, impact analysis).
Multi-Factor Authentication: Enforce MFA to strengthen sign-in security. Single sign-on is also available on the Enterprise plan — see SSO Configuration.
Settings: Review directories, time zone, and formatting defaults.

Go to Lineage & Impact Analysis.
Select Source Type: Data Connection.
Select a Data Connection, then narrow to Database/Table/Field.
Review the impacts and confirm you see downstream Tableau objects (worksheets/dashboards/storyboards).

Go to Processing & Scheduling.
Select a source (recommended first: Tableau Server/Cloud if available).
Select Site → Project(s) → Workbook(s).
Choose output type:
- Documentation files (HTML/PDF/DOCX/Excel/CSV) for human-readable documentation.
- Database export if you want the metadata in your database.
Start processing and watch the terminal logs for progress.
When complete, go to Download & Upload Files and download the generated output folder.
